What is Decentraland?
So, quick recap, what in the metaverse is “Decentraland”?
Decentraland is a decentralized virtual world powered by the Ethereum blockchain, opened to the public since February 2020. Within the Decentraland platform, users can create, experience, and monetize their content and applications.
Decentraland users can buy and sell digital real estate, while exploring, interacting, and playing games within this virtual world. Over time, the platform has evolved to implement interactive apps, in-world payments, and peer-to-peer communication for users. The platform is governed by its users through the Decentraland DAO, a decentralized autonomous organization.
How Can I Access Decentraland?
Decentraland is easily accessible. The only equipment a software you will need is a PC or Mac running Chrome, Firefox or Brave.
Digital Wallets: Metamask
If you want to fully enjoy the Decentraland experience, we recommend using a digital wallet. Digital wallets work as your personal account, keeping all your digital assets (such as names, collectibles, LANDs) and in-world progress safe.
Pause – if you’re new to all this, you might be asking “what is a digital wallet?”
Digital wallets are tools that work as a bridge between the blockchain and the decentralized applications.
However, if you choose to experience Decentraland without a wallet, you do have the option to do so – by selecting “Play as Guest” in the sign in screen. Do keep in mind, it won’t be optimal to play as a guest long term as your experience will be quite limited. You can walk around, customize your avatar and chat with others in-world. However, you won’t have the chance to receive rewards such as POAPs or NFT drops when you participate in certain events.

How Can I Set Up a Metamask?
So, first thing’s first we need to set up a digital wallet – Metamask.
- You will first need to go to Metamask.io and click “Download” then select from Chrome, IOS, or Android. Other supported browsers include Firefox, Brave, and Edge.
- Click Install
- Once installed, click Create a Wallet, then create a password
Secret Recovery Phrase
Don’t forget to note down your seed words on a piece of paper and keep them in a safe place.
Your Secret Recovery Phrase is a 12-word phrase that is the “master key” to your wallet and your funds
What Can I do in Decentraland?
Decentraland provides players with new ways to connect, engage, create, and ultimately have fun. The attractions and activities are constantly growing and it is filled with points of interest and live events to explore – there’s something for everyone.
Socialize
There are many new activities being hosted in Decentraland, which you can explore on their Events page.
Additionally, there are many nightclubs, bars and social venues where you can meet and connect with users and communities. These venues and events provide a good way to socialize and grow your network.

Building in Decentraland is split into two categories: Scenes and Wearables.
Building Scenes:
The Builder is a simple visual editor tool that lets you create and publish Decentraland scenes. The Builder is an on-line tool. It runs on the browser, you don’t need to install anything, simply visit builder.decentraland.org.

Building Wearables:
You can try creating virtual wearables, such as clothing, accessories, and body features that can be used to customize the appearance of Decentraland avatars. Wearables are represented as Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs). This allows a finite amount of different wearables to be created, or minted, on the blockchain.
Before wearables can minted as a NFT and sold on the Marketplace, they must first get approval from the Curation Committee.
